I helped one of Oregon’s longest-running camera retailers modernize its brand, strengthen its marketing consistency and connect with photographers across multiple retail locations.
Background
With more than 54 years in business, The Shutterbug had built a recognizable name within Oregon’s photography community. As the company’s sole marketing manager, I led marketing across the brand—including website management, social media, advertising, retail promotions, events and campaign strategy.
The opportunity was to modernize the company’s marketing without losing the familiar identity longtime customers already trusted.
The Challenge
The Shutterbug did not have established brand standards or visual guidelines. Advertising, digital channels and in-store materials needed a more consistent look, while the larger marketing strategy needed to support both retail foot traffic and online sales.
As a one-person marketing department supporting multiple locations, the approach also had to be practical, repeatable and adaptable across different channels.
The Approach
Brand Evolution
I led the company’s first major visual refresh, creating a more contemporary presentation while preserving its recognizable logo and legacy. The updated direction established greater consistency across digital advertising, social media, promotional materials and retail displays.
Multi-Channel Marketing
I developed and executed campaigns that combined digital advertising, promotional offers, manufacturer partnerships and out-of-home placements. Each campaign was designed to extend the brand beyond social media and give customers a clear reason to visit a store or shop online.
Events and Brand Experiences
I created and promoted photography-focused events that allowed customers to interact with store employees, educators and major camera brands. These experiences strengthened The Shutterbug’s position as more than a retailer—it became a community resource for photographers.
The Result
The refreshed brand created a more consistent and contemporary customer experience across physical and digital channels. The marketing strategy increased brand exposure, encouraged strong customer engagement and supported growth in both retail and online sales.
Most importantly, the work helped modernize an established Oregon business without losing the familiarity and trust behind its name.
